Dyrick Hill

Wind Farm

EMPower began development in Ireland in 2018 with the goal of providing low carbon, ecologically non-invasive, affordable energy to facilitate Ireland’s expanding economy and sustainable energy targets.

This website is intended to provide accurate and up to date project information for all Dyrick Hill wind farm interested

stakeholders. The project's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies will also be published here for viewing and comment by any interested stakeholder.

Dyrick Hill Wind Farm Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of EMPower has lodged a Strategic Infrastructure Development

Planning Application for the proposed Dyrick Hill wind farm. The planning documents and full Environmental Impact

Assessment have recently been submitted to An Bord Pleanála and will be available for viewing at the below link once the application is validated by An Bord Pleanála.

We have also established a Virtual Project Consultation Exhibition in order to provide interactive project information.

You can enter this Virtual Consultation Room at the below link.

Our Commitment

Our commitment is to engage meaningfully with our stakeholders on decisions that concern them. We aim to do this in a timely manner, and we commit to building relationships and starting a conversation on what aspects of this proposed renewable energy project could work best for this local area.
We feel that designing any proposed project in this manner makes better social and business sense.
PROJECT

The proposed development area of the Dyrick Hill wind farm is located 16 km northwest of Dungarvan and 8.5km southwest of Ballymacarbry in the townlands of Dyrick, Ballynaguilkee Upper, Broemountain and Lisleaghmountain in County Waterford.

EMPower commissioned Sligo based environmental and engineering consultancy, Jennings O'Donovan & Partners Limited to complete a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) for this proposed Dyrick Hill wind farm project. The full Environmental Impact Assessments was completed and submitted to An Bord Pleanála, along with the relevant planning documents in Q2 2023. You will be able to access the projects planning documentation for your review and comment from this website

The proposed Dyrick Hill wind farm EIAR has covered a number of topics, including but not limited to: Population and Human Health, Biodiversity, Land, Soil, Water, Air, Climate, Material Assets, Cultural Heritage, Noise, Landscape and Visuals. In order to ensure that this projects Environmental Impact Assessment process was appropriately carried out, EMPower have also prepared and circulated information documents detailing project particulars to statutory and non-statutory consultees to ensure that the Environmental Impact Assessment addresses all relevant topics specific to the local area for this project. The list of consultees can be individual for each project. For the proposed Dyrick Hill project the consultee list included: National Parks and Wildlife, Inland Fisheries Ireland, area telecommunication providers, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Waterford City and County Council, The Irish Aviation Authority and Fáilte Ireland plus many more.

Dyrick Hill wind farm will involve a €105 million investment in Irish renewable energy, providing low carbon electricity generation infrastructure to meet Ireland's growing demand. Dyrick Hill wind farm will provide a community fund of approximately €368,887 per year, to be made available to the local community for the 15 year duration of the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS). This fund will be allocated as per the RESS auction terms and conditions, with a minimum of 40% being directed towards local not-for-profit initiatives and enterprises, with a focus on climate.

Over the project's lifetime, it is estimated that there will be a total contribution of €23.8 million in county council rates.

As well as these direct financial benefits, Dyrick Hill wind farm will provide local employment opportunities. According to SEAI's "A Macroeconomic Analysis of Onshore Wind Deployment to 2020", 2.11 direct jobs are created per MW of installed wind capacity. Given a capacity of 74.4 MW, Dyrick Hill wind farm could create 156 direct jobs. EMPower propose a 12-turbine wind farm, at hub heights of 104 metres and blade diameter of 162 metres. Dyrick Hill wind farm is expected to generate enough clean, indigenous electricity to power over 43,000 Irish homes.
